PrEP HIV

What is PrEP HIV Treatment?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention strategy. It involves HIV-negative people taking specific anti-HIV medications to lessen their chance of becoming infected if they are exposed to the virus.

The medication that is used to help prevent HIV is Truvada, and it is used in combination with safer sex practices to reduce the risk of HIV infection. It contains emtricitabine and tenofovir and is taken before coming into contact with HIV. This medication prevents HIV from establishing an infection inside the body.

Using Truvada PrEP HIV medication has been shown to decrease the risk of contracting the HIV infection for people who have a sexual partner who is known to be HIV-positive and people who participate in high-risk sexual activity.

Having this medication in the bloodstream before an HIV-negative individual is exposed to HIV helps reduce the risk of contracting the virus.

It is not a cure for HIV and it does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as Chlamydia, Syphilis or Hepatitis C.

How Does PrEP HIV Treatment Work?

Although tenofovir and emtricitabine have been created to resist infection in case HIV enters the body, PrEP is not a vaccine. A vaccine trains the body to fight against infection for several years. This medicine should be taken daily, the presence of this medicine in your bloodstream can often stop HIV from taking control of healthy cells and spread throughout the body.

When PrEP HIV is not taken every day, there may not be enough of the medicine in your bloodstream to stop the virus.

When a cell gets infected by HIV, the virus takes over the control of that cell, and the healthy cell's ability to multiply is then used to make copies of the virus. A healthy cell reproduces by using a special type of protein called a reverse transcriptase enzyme.

The active ingredients in Truvada work by reducing the activity of this enzyme, and prevents HIV from making more copies of itself in the body. This treatment also increases and promotes the number of healthy cells in the body.

How Effective is PrEP HIV Treatment?

In the early 1980's, people diagnosed with HIV were fortunate if they survived for 8 years.

As a result of years of committed research, effective HIV AIDS treatments are now available. If this medication is taken as recommended, people with HIV are likely to live as long as HIV-negative people and are more likely to die of other causes.

Thanks to this research and the medical advances since the 80's, many people living with HIV are taking effective medicine and staying healthy as a result, and can continue to plan for their future as they would have done before they were diagnosed with HIV.

If HIV is allowed to multiply in the body, it will cause damage to the immune system. Eventually the immune system gets so weak that the body becomes defenseless to other diseases. At this point, an HIV-positive person is usually diagnosed with AIDS and other illnesses they get can eventually result in death.

However, this does not include HIV-positive people who take medications to counteract HIV. Clinical studies have continuously shown that HIV medications can keep HIV-positive people healthy. These people in the vast majority of cases can then expect to have a normal life expectancy.

PrEP HIV treatment is not the same as other long-term health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. For these conditions, medications remain effective even after a patient has stopped taking their medicine for a relatively long period of time.

If someone who is at risk from HIV infection forgets or chooses not to take their HIV medication, it may lead to the development of resistance to the medication which is a major cause of treatment failure.

In a recent trial study researchers from the Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit (MRCCTU) and Public Health England have presented results at a conference in Seattle, Washington.

The results released at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) indicate that PrEP HIV is highly protective for men who have sex with other men (MSM), reducing the risk of infection by 86%.

It is recommended that people who are infected start HIV treatment as soon as possible. Effective treatment can also allow some people living with HIV to achieve a level of HIV in the body that is undetectable. This means that the virus exists in such tiny amounts in the blood that it has no effect on the person's health.

Benefits of PrEP HIV Medication for EU Citizens

This pandemic has been around for almost forty years, so millions of people can benefit significantly from the use of Truvada in combination with other antiretroviral medications to treat the HIV infection.

  • People who are HIV positive; an estimated 102,000 people in the EU are living with HIV
  • Reduced risk of infecting others; PrEP HIV can be used as a defensive/preventative strategy for people who are HIV-negative and are at high risk of contracting HIV.
  • People who are at risk of being infected; by strengthening the immune system
  • Health Services and Taxpayers; The widespread use Truvada would save British taxpayers around £1 billion over the next 80 years

This medication may not be a cure for HIV, but it can keep it under control very effectively and allow the immune system to recover and stay strong.
Keeping the level of HIV in the body low also helps prevent HIV being passed on to someone else.

Best PrEP HIV Medication in the EU

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and its cause, HIV, was first recognized by the US center for Disease and Prevention (CDC) in 1981, and is estimated to have caused 32 million deaths around the globe.

Since the 80's many advancements have been made and the world has a much better understanding of the virus. From the improvements in sexual health and greater use of condoms, to the widening availability of testing and “highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART), is no longer a death sentence and the spread has been somewhat contained.

However, as recent as 2017, 1.8 million newly infected people were diagnosed worldwide, and HIV has proved to be extremely difficult to defeat.

This product contains two active medications or ingredients: emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil. These are both antiretroviral medicines used to treat HIV infection, and should be used in combination with other medicines to help control HIV infection.

Generic Truvada PrEP HIV tablets are the latest weapon in the battle against this pandemic. Although it is not yet available to most people, when used correctly, studies have shown it to be highly effective at preventing infection.
